Living in Yorkshire and Humber

Yorkshire is one of the most historic of the nine regions of England. It also encompasses northern Lincolnshire that was in the shire county of Humberside. The region is often regarded as the most rural in England with vast amounts of unspoilt countryside and numerous geographical landmarks. It’s no wonder this part of England has inspired many writers and artists throughout British history and the area often plays a huge role in the work itself. As well as the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors this region has enchanting towns and cities such as York and Ripon all attracting visitors from all over the country.

Moving to Yorkshire and Humber?

A sense of pride for the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales helps strengthen the sense of community amongst the people who live here. As much as possible is reserved and is in keeping with the area, for example the winding country roads around the valley and natural verges add to the charm of the dales.
The city of York very much encapsulates the idea of the old meeting the new. The beautiful architecture, impressive hotels and restaurants as well as the historical cathedral convey the historical significance of this impressive city whilst the vibrant student culture, bars and clubs bring a modern element to it also.
Leeds is one of the main cities in the region and is the cultural and financial heart of the west of Yorkshire. The city itself has many parks, landmarks and gardens as well as a range of impressive buildings. As with any bustling city Leeds holds many exciting bars, clubs, restaurants as well as theatres, galleries and museums.
The city of Ripon is one of the only two cities in North Yorkshire. It is most well-known for its cathedral and is a popular market town. It also has its own racecourse popular with locals and visitors alike. There are many landmarks with historical significance in this area of the country, for example the ruins of Fountains Abbey not two miles from Ripon.
Sheffield in the south of Yorkshire offers the best of both urban and rural life. With the city providing the modern excitement of clubs and bars, museums and the general buzz of city life, it’s a rare pleasure thought to have the outstanding natural beauty of the Peak District natural park so close by. For those who love both city and country life the city of Sheffield sums up what is best about both which could be said of the region of Yorkshire and Humber itself.
