In Hampshire are many historically significant cities, such as Winchester. Once Britain’s capital city Winchester is ranked as one of the best places to live and is home to two of the country’s best public schools as well as one of the best sixth form colleges. The city’s cathedral is truly beautiful and is very much the heart of the city as well as playing a central role in the surrounding schools. Every Christmas there is a traditional Christmas market and ice skating rink within the Cathedral grounds.
Oxfordshire is situated near both the River Thames and Henley on Thames and many from all over the country come to visit the county for the annual regattas. Such events exude British tradition which could be said of the county itself. With towns such as Oxford with its ancient buildings and colleges there is truly a sense of British pride and beauty.
A quick ferry ride from Portsmouth or Southampton will take you to the Isle of Wight. More than half of the island is regarded as an area of outstanding beauty. The island is the host of Cowes Week, the world’s longest running regatta as well as Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s house where she visited regularly where the immaculate gardens are now open to the public.
