Full Description
Description:
Designed by the present owners in conjunction with Architects Alexander & Thomas of Bristol, Hawkmoor is set in a designated area of outstanding Natural Beauty.
Situated in an elevated position along a country lane on the Rickford side of the village of Burrington, approximately 14 miles south of Bristol with spectacular views across the valley to the Severn estuary and beyond, and with Mendip walks immediately on the doorstep.
Hawkmoor has been cleverly designed to make the most of the location, with plenty of open space, yet retaining privacy, and made energy efficient, by maximising sunlight penetration. The areas below ground are concrete and masonry to provide a stabilizing 'heat sink', and a condensing boiler provides the under floor heating system.
The design allows for the lower floor, having being excavated into the hillside, to provide a sound proofed basement studio, ideal for games or music, and a further room, currently used for storage.
The Living Room has been set down half a level from the entrance floor - yet has direct access to the decked sun terrace with garden beyond.
The entrance on the ground floor leads from the hallway into a Family room / Kitchen, this flexible living area uses glass walling to stunning effect to literally bring the outside in, with wide French Doors opening onto a glazed balcony. Also on this floor is a smaller sitting room for more formal entertaining, and other rooms such as utility, cloakroom, shower room along with access to the Garaging.
On the First floor are Four Bedrooms, all of which are double in size and have storage. The principle two Bedrooms having en-suites and large individual glazed balconies which are generous enough to move a bed onto in the summer.
Returning to the ground floor, the Garaging is again of generous proportions and being insulated and top lit, provides an excellent space for a home office as well as vehicle storage. The automatic doors also contain a pass door for easy pedestrian access.
A paved and covered walkway from the utility leads to the fully insulated Summer House, with its glazed folding doors offering a perfect space to relax and enjoy the views.
Outside:
Having generous parking area to the front, and giving access to the attached garaging. Double gates give further vehicle access to the side.
To the rear, the gardens back onto and overlook stunning scenery across the valley and to the Severn Estuary and beyond. Having been thoughtfully designed to wrap around the house, and provide different areas for both quiet contemplation as well as entertainment. Carefully planted they provide interest and colour all year round, and sit in harmony with the surrounding countryside.
Throughout you are reminded that this is an eco-friendly bespoke build. The frame of Douglas Fir was locally grown and chosen because of its ability to span larger areas than the more traditional Oak Frame. Outside has been clad with Cedar which is purposefully left untreated to 'grey' with age. Inside a high degree of planning has incorporated unobtrusive storage throughout. Data network cabling (Cat 5) installed throughout. Custom made aluminium guttering and pipes. Custom designed predominately to take advantage of the stunning landscape as well as optimise natural daylight and heat from the sun.
