University towns top investor interest table
A new survey of the towns and cities where interest in property to
rent or buy has been highest has shown that most of the top
locations in August have been university towns.
Property portal Propertyfinder.com said this was likely to be a
consequence of the fact that A-level results have just come out,
with young people now making concrete preparations for the next
stage of their education.
Many locations were in the top 20 for both interest lists, with
Lincoln, Oxford, Bournemouth, Eastbourne and Norwich making the top
ten in both.
Those buying for investment in student lettings should make sure
they go for property in popular student areas, director of
propertyfinder.com Nicholas Leeming advised.
He said this was because students liked to live near each other
while the local populace prefer not to live near students.
Recent research by Halifax found that the top university towns have
a house price premium of up to 25 per cent.
