Enjoy market town life in Axminster

The market town of Axminster is located on the eastern border of
Devon and has plenty to offer people wanting to relocate.
Those looking to move to the south-west may want to look for
houses for sale in Axminster, as the town offers beautiful
views of the Devon countryside.
With a population of almost 6,000, it is big enough that residents
will never feel isolated, but is small enough to avoid the busy and
claustrophobic feel of many towns and cities.
Axminster dates back to the Celtic times and lies on two major
Roman roads – the Fosse Way from Lincoln to Seaton and the
Dorchester–Exeter road.
There are a number of villages near to Axminster, including
Colyford, Combpyne, Dalwood, Hawkchurch, Kilmington, Membury,
Musbury, Raymond's Hill, Rousdon, Shute, Smallridge, Tytherleigh,
Uplyme and Whitford.
Axminster has its own railway station, which connects the town to
Yeovil and Queen Street Station in Exeter.
It is also the southern starting point of the Taunton Stop Line,
which runs north to the Somerset coast near Highbridge.
Exercise fanatics will be impressed by the facilities on offer at
Axminster Leisure Centre.
It features a gym with treadmills, step machines, cross trainers,
rowing machines, static bikes and a variety of weight
machines.
The leisure centre also offers various indoor sports sessions for
those of all ages and abilities, including trampolining, archery,
badminton, cricket football and tae kwon do.
Those who prefer swimming can visit Exmouth leisure Centre, Honiton
Leisure Centre or Sidmouth Swimming Pool, all of which have
25-metre pools and are open from early in the morning to late in
the evening.
People looking for a bit of culture can head to Axminster Museum,
which is situated in the centre of the town in the Old Police
Station and Courthouse, opposite St. Mary's Church.
Founded in 1982, the museum includes exhibitions related to the
town's carpet industry, which was founded by Thomas Whitty in
1755.
Other collections include agricultural tools, archaeological finds,
coins and medals, costumes and textiles and old photographs.
There are plenty of things for those with an interest in the arts
to do too, with the Guidhall hosting meetings of the Axminster
Drama Club and Axminster Operatic Society.
